Harvey Wrestling Wraps a Gritty, Successful Season

The 2025–26 wrestling season came to a close this weekend at
the district tournament, and like it often does in this sport, it ended with
both pride and heartbreak.

Post-season wrestling is built to be brutally difficult. With every round, the level of competition jumps exponentially. Every match gets tougher, every mistake matters more, and eventually almost everyone runs into the match that ends their season.

That reality hit close to home for the Harvey Red Raiders and Lady Raiders this weekend.

At 285 pounds, Marvin Guerra battled his way to a 6th-place
finish, going 2–2 on the weekend and finishing just one step away from a trip to the state tournament. Marvin also reached an incredible milestone earlier this season, recording his 100th career victory — a testament to four years of hard work and dedication.

On the girls side, Giselle Moreno came painfully close to punching her ticket to state. After reaching the semifinals, Giselle entered the blood round with a chance to qualify. She was leading late in the match before things slipped away in the closing moments. It was a tough loss, but anyone who watched knows how well she wrestled and how close she was to advancing.

Ricky Lewis (175) and Elijah Hall (215) both fought hard at districts, finishing 1–2 against some of the best competition in the region. Both wrestled tough matches and showed the kind of grit that defines Harvey
wrestling.

On the girls side, Nataly Nila (100) went 2–2 with two pins, battling all day and proving she belongs at the district level. Sophia Turner (170) also competed hard, finishing 1–2 in a tough bracket.

There was definitely some heartbreak this weekend. When you get that close to a state berth, the losses sting.

But wrestling is a sport that tests you in a way few others do. It’s not designed to be comfortable. Sometimes the only way to find out how far you can go is to push until you break a little.

It’s a tough way to “play a sport,” but the toughness it builds — mentally and physically — is something that stays with these athletes for life.

And despite the difficult ending, this was a season to be proud of.

The Harvey boys finished with an outstanding 23–4 dual meet record, earning victories over strong programs including North, Geneva, Edgewood, Beachwood, Maple Heights, Medina Highland, Lakeside and more.

The team also had a strong showing on the tournament circuit, including:

2nd Place – Rebel Invitational

2nd Place – Beachwood Brawl

Individually, the Red Raiders had nine wrestlers win 20 or more matches this season:

Josue Gutierrez (126) – 26 wins

Yariel Torres (157) – 23 wins

Demetrius Clark (132) – 21 wins

The Lady Raiders also had a strong season with multiple
athletes hitting impressive win totals:

Nataly Nila (100) – 20 wins

Aliyah Arebalo Pulido (110) – 20 wins

Giselle Moreno (190) – 18 wins

Sophia Turner (170) – 15 wins

When you step back and look at the season as a whole, there is a lot to celebrate — growth, toughness, milestones, and a team culture that continues to get stronger.

Wrestling will always test you, sometimes brutally.

But that’s also why it’s so valuable.

The Harvey wrestling program is proud of these athletes — not just for the wins, but for the way they stepped into challenges, battled through adversity, and kept showing up.

And as tough as this ending was, the mindset doesn’t change.

We regroup.

We get back to work.

And we take on the next challenge — no matter how brutal it may be.
