Harvey High School Welcomes Marcus Jones and Roderick Coffee II as New Head Coaches

PAINESVILLE, OHIO — Harvey High School and Painesville City Local Schools are proud to announce the hiring of Marcus Jones as Head Football Coach and Roderick "Rod" Coffee II as Head Boys Basketball Coach, ushering in an exciting new chapter for two of the school's flagship athletic programs. Both coaches bring extensive experience, deep ties to the Painesville community, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field of play. Marcus Jones Named Head Football Coach The Painesville City Local Schools Board of Education officially approved Marcus Jones as the next head football coach of the Harvey Red Raiders during its June meeting. Jones brings a wealth of football knowledge and a passion for mentoring young people. Coach Jones has spent 5+ years as an assistant coach, which included stops at Riverside and Saline High School in Michigan. He spent last year as an assistant coach within the Red Raider Football program. A graduate from Riverside High School, he was an All-American football player at Gannon University in Erie, PA. Per the Gannon Athletics website "Concluding his career with 4,339 yards on 618 carries with 54 TDs, Jones holds Gannon school records for career, season and game rushing and touchdowns while ranking fifth in career attempts. He topped the 100-yard mark in rushing 18 times. He was also a capable receiver who ranks fifth in career receptions for a running back with 51." He was inducted into the Gannon University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2025. Coach Jones has already hit the ground running, leading summer workouts and beginning preparations for the upcoming season. Players have responded enthusiastically to the energy and direction he has brought to the program as the Red Raiders begin building toward the future. Roderick Coffee II Named Head Boys Basketball Coach Harvey High School is equally excited to welcome Roderick Coffee II as the next Head Boys Basketball Coach. Few individuals possess stronger ties to Harvey Athletics than Coach Coffee. With more than two decades of coaching experience within Painesville City Schools, Coffee has positively impacted countless student-athletes across multiple sports and grade levels. Coffee has served as a coach within the Red Raider Boys Basketball program since 2004. His extensive experience within the program provides him with a unique understanding of Harvey Basketball's traditions and expectations. In addition to his basketball experience, Coffee has served as Head Coach for Heritage Middle School Football and Track & Field programs. Coach Coffee's familiarity with Harvey Basketball, combined with his extensive coaching background and relationships throughout the district, positions him to continue building a program that emphasizes player development, accountability, and competitive excellence. Looking Ahead The future is bright for Harvey Athletics as both programs begin preparations for their upcoming seasons. Football summer workouts are already underway, with Coach Jones and his staff working to establish the culture and standards that will define the next era of Red Raider Football. Meanwhile, Coach Coffee will officially begin organizing the boys basketball program this month. A Boys Basketball Parent Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dillard Board Room at Harvey High School. Players and parents are encouraged to attend to meet Coach Coffee, learn about offseason expectations, and hear his vision for the future of Harvey Basketball.
